Brisbane is a great place to live, work and play and we are lucky enough to enjoy a fantastic outdoor lifestyle. A large part of this outdoor lifestyle comes from our backyards and gardens. Spring is just upon us and that means more time outdoors!

Every tree, flower or shrub we plant, care for, and maintain, benefits and enhances our environment ensuring a legacy for future generations to enjoy. Our gardens and backyards provide homes for Brisbane’s unique wildlife, as well as providing valuable shelter and shade during the hotter months.

September is a great time to get out in the garden and take care of any maintenance issues such as pruning, trimming, fertilising and mulching before the hot Summer months. The good news is that it doesn’t need to be a chore, because North Brisbane Trees can help out or if you prefer, you can flex those green thumbs and get down and dirty in the garden yourself!

A sustainable garden requires less work to maintain, making it more efficient, productive and less time-consuming. Sustainable gardening methods include thoughtful planning, protecting native vegetation, removing environmental weeds, mulching and composting, using water efficiently, planting appropriate plants in the right place and reducing the use of non-organic fertilisers and other chemicals which can damage our waterways.

When choosing plants, consider the many beautiful, hardy and drought tolerant Australian natives available. Native plants are more likely to thrive, need less watering and maintenance, and provide valuable food, water and shelter for our local wildlife. We’re blessed to live in such a beautiful part of the world and even more blessed to live in gorgeous South East Queensland. There’s plenty of native flora to consider when sprucing up your garden to make it a truly Brisbane garden!
